FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MEMPHIS AFL-CIO LABOR COUNCIL, INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OF ELECTRICAL WORKERS LOCAL UNION 1288 AND STEAMFITTERS LOCAL UNION 614 ENDORSE CHARLEY BURCH FOR SUPER DISTRICT 9 POSITION 1
Memphis, TN – Between August 20, 2015 and August 23, 2015, the Memphis AFL-CIO Labor Council, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 1288 and the Steamfitters Local Union 614 endorsed Charley Burch for Super District 9 Position 1.
Charley Burch is a friend of workers and labor, and he stands for the core issues and values that continue to be most important to our citizens, including defending health care plans and pensions for first responders, improving infrastructure such as road improvement, and enhancing access to education programs focused on vocational and skilled trade development.
The Burch family has a history of government involvement and defending our Citizen’s rights. Charley’s father, Charlie Burch of blessed memory, served in the Tennessee House of Representatives, was an attorney, public defender, professor of Law at The University of Memphis School of Law and member of the Shelby County and American Bar Associations. Charley’s cousin, Lucius E. Burch, Jr. of blessed memory, worked on behalf of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a successful effort to lift a U.S. District Court injunction against a planned march in support of the striking workers in the Memphis Sanitation Strike.
On the endorsement, Charley Burch said, “In the past, I was related to these great labor and civil rights leaders. Now with the Memphis AFL-CIO Labor Council, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 1288 and Steamfitters Local Union 614 endorsement, I have joined them.” Charley Burch is honored to receive these endorsements, and is committed to representing The Voice of The People and not private interest agendas.
Bobbie Sproles, Business Manager for the Steamfitters Local Union 614 said, “Steamfitters Local 614 are proud to stand with Charley Burch as candidate for City Council District 9-Position 1. He has shown his dedication and loyalty to the City of Memphis through his community service and commitment to support the working middle class. He stands for the core issues and values that continue to be the most important to our citizens. He knows that we need infrastructure, especially our first responders and good roads. He understands that just because we can spend money doesn’t mean we have to if we don’t support the workers of Memphis and if we don’t create JOBS for Memphians. His involvement in the development and support of the arts and music industry only expounds on his love for Memphis. He just gets it. This town needs change and sometimes we need to look at our political heritage. The Burch heritage says ‘Charley Burch is right for Memphis’.”
It’s time to start Rebuilding Memphis for Memphians!
